Dako\u00adta Stevens is a clas\u00adsic PI for the 21st cen\u00adtu\u00adry, com\u00adbin\u00ading the wit and grit of Mar\u00adlowe and Spenser with the sleuthing skills of Sher\u00adlock Holmes.<\/p>\n

As a for\u00admer FBI agent with expe\u00adri\u00adence in the field and the lab, Dako\u00adta employs a broad set of inves\u00adtiga\u00adtive tech\u00adniques to solve his cas\u00ades, includ\u00ading tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal \u201cluck and pluck\u201d gumshoe work, foren\u00adsic sci\u00adence and infor\u00adma\u00adtion tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy. Tall, MIT-edu\u00adcat\u00aded and always well-dressed, he enjoys ten\u00adnis, pool and horse\u00adback rid\u00ading, and has a fatal weak\u00adness for beau\u00adti\u00adful red\u00adheads.<\/p>\n

As for Dako\u00adta\u2019s \u201cWat\u00adson,\u201d she is any\u00adthing but. A Ukrainian\u2013American chess cham\u00adpi\u00adon with run\u00adway legs, preda\u00adtor eyes and flu\u00aden\u00adcy in sev\u00aden lan\u00adguages, Svet\u00adlana Kr\u00fcsh brings world\u00adly sophis\u00adti\u00adca\u00adtion to their cas\u00ades, or, as Svet\u00adlana would have you believe, she \u201csolves the crimes and han\u00addles the mon\u00adey.\u201d<\/p>\n

In many oth\u00ader mys\u00adtery series the PI is a grit\u00adty out\u00adcast, oper\u00adat\u00ading on the fringes. Not so in the Dako\u00adta Stevens Mys\u00adtery Series. Dako\u00adta is the rare exception\u2014a suc\u00adcess\u00adful PI\u2014and although his agency is based in Man\u00adhat\u00adtan, Dakota\u2019s cas\u00ades fre\u00adquent\u00adly take him and Svet\u00adlana to far-flung and exot\u00adic locales around the U.S. and some\u00adtimes the world.<\/p>\n

Besides mere plot and \u201cwho\u00addunit,\u201d the Dako\u00adta Stevens Mys\u00adtery Series is notable for its strong writ\u00ading, engross\u00ading read\u00aders with crisp, quotable dia\u00adlogue; a vivid sense of place; and lush sen\u00adso\u00adry detail.<\/p>\n
