There was a time<\/em><\/strong> \u2026 before smart phones and the internet, before social media, \u201csmart\u201d TVs, apps, GPS tracking, AI, or e-anything. It was a time when music was played on cassette tapes or vinyl records; CDs (compact discs) were a brand-new innovation; and phone calls were made on push-button or rotary-dial telephones. It was a time in America when most households didn\u2019t have a computer, when gasoline was under a dollar per gallon, and MTV was king.<\/span><\/p>\n

The time I\u2019m speaking of is the mid-1980s\u2014indisputably the greatest period for young people in U.S. history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Set against the vibrant backdrop of the Reagan era, it\u2019s a coming-of-age story, a love story, historical fiction and an odyssey, offering readers a truly immersive experience: immersion in the music, culture, fashion, lingo, customs, and everyday details of teenage life in the \u201980s. Through these nine books (or episodes), you can leave behind the modern world (\u201cCalgon<\/a>\u2026take me away\u2026\u201d<\/em>) and be transported to a quaint yet fresh<\/i> world of mixtapes, handwritten notes, rotary dial payphones, VCRs, videogame arcades, floppy disks, and Trapper Keepers. <\/span><\/p>\n

Truly, what I\u2019m offering readers is a <\/span>time machine<\/span><\/i> back to this magical era\u2014possibly the greatest time ever to be a teenager in America.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bodaciously True & Totally Awesome: The Legendary Adventures of Avery \u201cAce\u201d Craig <\/span><\/i>tells the story of Avery and his high school friends against the backdrop of seminal events including the return of Halley\u2019s Comet, the Challenger disaster, the Chernobyl meltdown, the Reykjavik conference, the \u201cGarbage Barge\u201d fiasco, and President Reagan\u2019s Berlin Wall speech. <\/span>Over the course of two years, Avery goes on adventures across the United States and to Europe; crosses paths with \u201980s celebrities and political leaders; navigates the perilous, tempestuous seas of sex and romance; learns the nature of true love; endures death, loss, and hardship; and transforms from a teenage boy into a young man. It\u2019s a novel about<\/i> teens, written for<\/i> adults; it\u2019s not<\/i> YA literature.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n
