It\u2019s the Christ\u00admas present I did\u00adn\u2019t expect.<\/p><\/div>\n

IndieRead\u00ader, the trust\u00aded and infor\u00adma\u00adtive web-zine about all things indie pub\u00adlish\u00ading, has includ\u00aded my book of short sto\u00adries, The Man, The Myth, The Leg\u00adend<\/em>, on their list of the Best Indie Books of 2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n

(Mine is near the end.)<\/p>\n

Back in July, IndieRead\u00ader (IR) gave the col\u00adlec\u00adtion a 5\u2011star review<\/a> and<\/em> the dis\u00adtinc\u00adtion of being one of their \u201cIndieRead\u00ader-Approved\u201d titles.<\/p>\n

And now, this.<\/p>\n

Out of the thou\u00adsands of indie titles pub\u00adlished in 2013, The Man, The Myth, The Leg\u00adend<\/em> was vot\u00aded one of the year\u2019s best. I\u2019m over\u00adjoyed.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

What makes it even more spe\u00adcial is that, like a good Christ\u00admas present, I had no idea it was com\u00ading.<\/p>\n

And the icing? The fact that 9 out of the 10 sto\u00adries in the col\u00adlec\u00adtion were sub\u00admit\u00adted to, and reject\u00aded by, dozens of lit\u00ader\u00adary jour\u00adnals and mag\u00ada\u00adzines over the past three years before I decid\u00aded to pub\u00adlish them on Kin\u00addle myself.<\/p>\n

Since ear\u00adly 2012, IR has giv\u00aden both of my Dako\u00adta Stevens mys\u00adter\u00adies 5\u2011star reviews as well\u2014a fact that I post\u00aded about ear\u00adli\u00ader this year<\/a>. I\u2019m grate\u00adful to them for their sup\u00adport of my work, but I\u2019m also grate\u00adful to them for the work they\u2019re doing on behalf of all indie authors.<\/p>\n

By iden\u00adti\u00adfy\u00ading and pro\u00admot\u00ading the best indie work out there, IR is doing a mar\u00advelous job of dis\u00adpelling the myth that indie writ\u00ading and ebooks in gen\u00ader\u00adal are junk.<\/p>\n

As a writer who spent many years in the gaunt\u00adlet of tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal pub\u00adlish\u00ading, try\u00ading to find a home for his books, I am glad to now have this oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adty to reach read\u00aders through epub\u00adlish\u00ading.<\/p>\n

As I\u2019ve said before, I knew<\/em> that if I could just get my books into the hands of actu\u00adal read\u00aders<\/em> (not jad\u00aded pub\u00adlish\u00ading professionals)\u2014I knew that read\u00aders would enjoy them. And they have.<\/p>\n
