{"id":6936,"date":"2015-05-09T01:03:37","date_gmt":"2015-05-09T01:03:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orcutt.net\/weblog\/?p=6936"},"modified":"2015-05-09T01:14:07","modified_gmt":"2015-05-09T01:14:07","slug":"dakota-svetlana-are-going-to-be-a-tv-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orcutt.net\/weblog\/dakota-svetlana-are-going-to-be-a-tv-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Dakota &amp; Svetlana ARE Going to be a TV Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I HAVE DECIDED that the adven\u00adtures of Dako\u00adta &amp; Svet\u00adlana are going to be a tele\u00advi\u00adsion series.<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6940\" src=\"https:\/\/orcutt.net\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/DS_Series_Covers.jpg\" alt=\"DS_Series_Covers\" width=\"610\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/orcutt.net\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/DS_Series_Covers.jpg 610w, https:\/\/orcutt.net\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/DS_Series_Covers-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/orcutt.net\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/DS_Series_Covers-500x267.jpg 500w, https:\/\/orcutt.net\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/DS_Series_Covers-430x230.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\"><br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nAs I helped a friend with his screen\u00adplay today, some\u00adthing occurred to me: Ever since I wrote the first Dako\u00adta Stevens mys\u00adtery, <em>A Real Piece of Work<\/em>, I\u2019ve always imag\u00adined Dako\u00adta and Svet\u00adlana as a TV series, where each nov\u00adel takes place over the course of a sea\u00adson of 8\u201310 episodes.<\/p>\n<p>When I look at my TV view\u00ading habits, for years I have been a keen stu\u00addent of series on Net\u00adflix, BBC, AMC, Show\u00adtime and HBO includ\u00ading <em>Mad Men<\/em>, <em>The Walk\u00ading Dead<\/em>, <em>Break\u00ading Bad<\/em>, <em>House of Cards<\/em>, <em>The Sopra\u00adnos<\/em>, <em>Curb Your Enthu\u00adsi\u00adasm<\/em>, <em>Rome<\/em>, <em>Unbreak\u00adable Kim\u00admy Schmidt<\/em>, <em>Lily\u00adham\u00admer<\/em>, <em>Mr. Sel\u00adf\u00adridge<\/em>, and <em>Hell on Wheels<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, for years I\u2019ve always hoped that some\u00adone asso\u00adci\u00adat\u00aded with TV pro\u00adduc\u00adtion would mag\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly read my nov\u00adels and see their poten\u00adtial for a series. Up to now, how\u00adev\u00ader, this hope has been pure\u00adly pas\u00adsive. I haven\u2019t tak\u00aden active steps of my own to bring this about.<\/p>\n<p>Until now.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uLMUIw3ERg0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have decid\u00aded that the adven\u00adtures of Dako\u00adta &amp; Svet\u00adlana are going to be a tele\u00advi\u00adsion series.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I know it sounds ridicu\u00adlous. In the norm, just because I\u2019ve decid\u00aded some\u00adthing doesn\u2019t mean it will hap\u00adpen, but I have always believed strong\u00adly in some\u00adthing the Scot\u00adtish moun\u00adtain climber William Hutchin\u00adson Mur\u00adray said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>\u201cCon\u00adcern\u00ading all acts of ini\u00adtia\u00adtive (and cre\u00adation), there is one ele\u00admen\u00adtary truth that igno\u00adrance of which kills count\u00adless ideas and splen\u00addid plans: that the moment one def\u00adi\u00adnite\u00adly com\u00admits one\u00adself, then Prov\u00adi\u00addence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would nev\u00ader oth\u00ader\u00adwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the deci\u00adsion, rais\u00ading in one\u2019s favor all man\u00adner of unfore\u00adseen inci\u00addents and meet\u00adings and mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal assis\u00adtance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. What\u00adev\u00ader you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Bold\u00adness has genius, pow\u00ader, and mag\u00adic in it. My vision for the series is that Sea\u00adson 1 would be the nov\u00adel <em>A Real Piece of Work<\/em>&nbsp;told in ten episodes. Sea\u00adson 2 would be <em>The Rich Are Dif\u00adfer\u00adent<\/em>, and Sea\u00adson 3 <em>A Truth Stranger Than Fic\u00adtion<\/em>. I will write the treat\u00adment and episode scripts this sum\u00admer, and late in the sum\u00admer or ear\u00adly this fall I will be con\u00adtact\u00ading agents, pro\u00adduc\u00adtion com\u00adpa\u00adnies, direc\u00adtors, pro\u00adduc\u00aders and actors, send\u00ading them the treat\u00adment, scripts and copies of the prop\u00ader\u00adties themselves\u2014the nov\u00adels.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to see Dako\u00adta &amp; Svet\u00adlana on TV, you can help me:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">1.
