\"Orcutt_Homepage_Slideshow_122414.006\"It was long. At 2 hours on the phone, it was by far the longest inter\u00adview I\u2019ve ever done<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But it was worth it.<\/p>\n

To do the inter\u00adview, I had to stay up way past<\/em> my usu\u00adal 10 p.m. (East\u00adern) bed\u00adtime, and I had to pound down half a gal\u00adlon of cof\u00adfee before\u00adhand, but it was worth it.<\/p>\n

I had to spend the entire after\u00adnoon before the inter\u00adview bon\u00ading up on my helium\u20113 research and tak\u00ading a long nap, but it was worth it.<\/p>\n

I had to dri\u00adve a half-hour to my wife\u2019s office to take the call from the stu\u00addio (I don\u2019t have a land\u00adline at home) and endure sus\u00adpi\u00adcious looks from her col\u00adlege\u2019s secu\u00adri\u00adty peo\u00adple (because it was 1 a.m.), but it was worth it. For one thing, on the way in we stopped at Dunkin\u2019 Donuts, which was about to close, and I got their last cof\u00adfee roll.<\/p>\n

\"RichardSyrettv2-400x300\"Right from the out\u00adset of the inter\u00adview, dur\u00ading his beau\u00adti\u00adful, elo\u00adquent intro\u00adduc\u00adtion of me and the sub\u00adject of helium\u20113, Coast to Coast AM guest host Richard Syrett<\/a> showed that he tru\u00adly is a mas\u00adter of the radio medi\u00adum.<\/p>\n

Con\u00adtrary to what some peo\u00adple might think, not every\u00adone<\/em> can do pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal\u00adly what he does. He led me along per\u00adfect\u00adly in his ques\u00adtions and plugged my nov\u00adels and my work as a writer sev\u00ader\u00adal times dur\u00ading the show. He is one of the great ones, and I would be proud to do anoth\u00ader inter\u00adview with him in the future.<\/p>\n

Lis\u00adten\u00ading to myself after the fact, I noticed a few hitch\u00ades in my speech, a few ver\u00adbal tics that annoyed me a bit, but part of me was over\u00adwhelmed with a sense of respon\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty to get it right<\/em>. This is an intel\u00adli\u00adgent audi\u00adence, I\u2019d been told, and I had to get my facts straight. Get the facts wrong, and I\u2019d be toast. Thank\u00adful\u00adly (for the most part, I think), I got them right.<\/p>\n

While I did the inter\u00adview, Alexas sat on the oth\u00ader side of her office lis\u00adten\u00ading to it on a local AM radio sta\u00adtion. As she has done some\u00adtimes dur\u00ading my oth\u00ader inter\u00adviews, now and then she looked at me, shook her head and mouthed the words, \u201cI can\u2019t believe I know you.\u201d<\/p>\n
